Since inception in 1983, Spears/Votta & Associates, Inc. (SVA) experienced steady growth until the recent economic downturn. All of SVA's key personnel remain with the firm and provide a sound foundation for the firm's expansion as the economy and building industry improves. The firm maintains a professional staff of approximately 15 members. Our experienced team includes engineers, designers, design / draftspersons and support / administrative personnel. The principals and technical staff at SVA regularly participate in formal and in-house continuing education classes, seminars and professional society meetings to acquire knowledge pertaining to technology; code changes; innovative state-of-the-art M/E/P system applications; computer aided design and drafting software; quality control; accounting; risk management; and overall personnel and project management.
The forward-thinking staff at SVA utilizes progressive technology to efficiently provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (M/E/P) engineering services. High speed networked computer aided design and drafting (CADD) and engineering workstations; computerized mechanical and electrical calculations; HVAC and electrical system modeling & analysis; air measuring & balancing equipment; and a dedicated high speed Internet connection for e-mail, Internet access, CADD drawing and plot file transmission are the most notable features of our highly automated offices.
SVA maintains a high degree of active participation with memberships in local, regional, national, and international professional and industry related societies and organizations. This participation includes membership and, in many cases, officer and board level participation in the local chapters of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air Conditioning Engineers(ASHRAE)*, American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE)*, Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA), American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA), Building Congress & Exchange*, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)*, Illuminating Engineering Society Of North America (IESNA)*, Chesapeake Area Society of Health Care Engineering (CASHE), Backflow Prevention Association (BPA), Electric League of Baltimore (ELM), Engineering Society of Baltimore (ESB)*, International Facility Management Association (IFMA), International Code Council (ICC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
